Background While 40% of EFNEP adult participants identify as Hispanic or Latino, the FPAQ, an evaluation tool for adult participants, has only been tested with English-speaking populations. In the U.S., 22 percent of Hispanic families of any race earned incomes below the federal poverty level, compared to just 7 percent of non-Hispanic Whites. Reliability and validity testing of the Spanish translation of the FPAQ is necessary to ensure the tool is effective for Spanish-speaking populations. Purpose EFNEP coordinators and paraprofessionals will have access to a valid and reliable Food and Physical Activity Questionnaire in Spanish to assess program impacts. Approach The FPAQ questions will be tested for face validity, internal consistency, and reliability using expert panels, cognitive interviews, and test-retest procedures. Testing will build on the original protocols developed by the NC2169 EFNEP Related Research, Program Evaluation, and Outreach USDA Multi-State Research Group Project. Protocols of alternate studies which have successfully tested Spanish translations of validated health related survey tools will also be consulted for guidance.
